We have horses and ponies for all levels and ages, English and Western style. All rides are guided through beautiful, scenic Chester County. Trails wind along the French Creek, dirt roads, wooded areas and streams. Our specialty is teaching safe, effective skills and proper riding. Extra time is spent with timid riders or those who require extra help. WE LOVE OUR HORSES! We would like to share this with you, the art of proper riding, and kindness to our animals. SO PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM! We are not a "hack stable". We breed, raise and train our own horses and they are like family to us.

We also ask that you respect our staff. We have been in the horse business for more than 40 years and have specialized in the trail riding business for more than 30 years. We ride and have competed in both English (A/B rated to include: Devon and Ludwigs Corner) and Western events and have spent more than 40 years training our own horses. Through these years of experience we have learned what works best for our horses. No two horse people will train their horse the exact same way. Our horses are trained with direct reining and do not appreciate a tight rein nor heels that are up in their sides. We also use a mounting block to mount all riders no matter their experience. This is much easier on the horses' backs.

**Please note that if we feel that someone is mistreating or being disrespectful to our horses or staff we will not hesitate to refer them elsewhere.**

We ask people to be honest with their riding experience. We use the number of hours that one has invested in riding,  rather than the number of years one has ridden to determine one's true riding level. For example, if you have ridden for five years but only ridden 25 hours over that time we would still consider you a beginner. Once riding levels are assessed, horses are chosen to suit riding abilities. Please do not request horses for your friends nor horses that you have not ridden for yourself, let us do our job. Too often when someone is unknowledgeable about their experience level or requests a horse that is unsuitable for themself they are overmounted. This can be very dangerous and a very unwise decision on ones' behalf. We will then have to take time out of your riding time to switch you to a more fitting horse.  Accuracy and total honesty about each persons riding level is essential.

Our goals are: organization, providing quality mounts, and offering an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone.

A timely arrival is necessary. Late arrivals will be subjected to penalized riding time. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, especially: if your reservation includes more than 6 riders,  special horses are reserved, particular guides have been requested, or you are bringing your own tack.

We are able to accomodate most sizes of riders and riders with special needs but we MUST be notified of this when you make your reservation. If you fail to inform us of a special need and we have to go out and bring in a different more appropriate horse the time taken to get and saddle the horse will be deducted from your riding time.

Riders without reservations are charged an extra $5 per person weekdays and $7 per person on weekends and holidays.

Picnic Ride: For rides that are 1 and a half hours or longer you have the option of making your ride into a picnic ride. Food is not included. When you arrive we will pack your food into saddle bags (NO GLASS PLEASE).  You then set out on your ride, stop for the length of time you like, usually along a creek, re-mount and  return to our farm. The total time the horse is away from the farm  is considered in your total cost.  For example, if you choose to do a 2 hour picnic ride you have the horses off the farm for a total of two hours (Cost = $65-75/person)  which does include the time spent eating.

The cost for the picnic ride is the same price as the trail ride prices listed above.

Trail Lessons

Lessons at Sheeder Mill Farm take place out on the trail. Our lessons are geared at teaching detailed control and proper equitation for the beginner, timid,  rusty rider, child, or adult. Our lessons are suitable for families as well as individuals. They are a good way to gain experience and confidence for horseback riding vacations, dude ranch excursions,  or for anyone who wants to improve their riding skills. We feel that riding out on the trails is more enjoyable for the rider as well as the horse. We feel that ring lessons should only be used when preparing for showing. For people wanting more advanced ring lessons we can provide referrals.
